From Legacy to Leadership: How InSight Helped Konrady Plastics Navigate Growth
At InSight Strategic Solutions, we pride ourselves on partnering with visionary leaders who are committed to growth, innovation, and building something meaningful. Leah Konrady, CEO of Konrady Plastics, is one of those leaders. A second-generation business owner, Leah stepped into her family’s business in 2020 with the goal of helping guide a leadership transition. What started as a temporary move quickly became permanent—and transformational.
A Family Legacy with a Modern Vision
Konrady Plastics machines plastic components and distributes plastic sheet, rod and tube. Unlike many machine shops that focus solely on metals, Konrady Plastics has built a niche around machining plastics—a skill they’ve honed over four decades.
“Many companies don’t machine plastics at all,” Leah explains. “Our clients bring us a print, and we turn that into a high-quality plastic part designed exactly to their specifications.”
In addition to their technical expertise, Konrady Plastics stands out as a woman-owned, family-run company that holds tightly to its values. Their mission? Work together to build something good. That philosophy extends both internally—with a focus on creating a healthy, stable workplace—and externally, as they contribute to modern day society by making parts for industries like food processing to health care to automotive manufacturing.
Weathering Challenges with Adaptability
Taking the helm in 2020, Leah faced a perfect storm of challenges: a global pandemic, unprecedented inflation, and supply chain disruption. But instead of letting those circumstances define the company’s future, she led with adaptability.
“It’s been a test of flexibility more than anything,” she says. “We’ve stayed successful by staying open to change.”
As the company grew and evolved quickly in four years, Leah recognized a need to help her strategically manage the company’s financial assets and financial decisions making. That’s when she partnered with InSight Strategic Solutions.
“I had always been looking for someone who could help us with the financial strategy of our business,” Leah says. “Veronica was the perfect fit.”
A Collaborative Approach to Financial Success
Konrady Plastics first engaged InSight for strategic financial consulting, seeking guidance on high-level decisions and long-term planning. As the relationship deepened and team needs evolved, InSight stepped in to provide additional support—offering fractional controller and bookkeeping services to help build a stronger financial foundation. When the company’s long-time book-keeper retired, InSight seamlessly stepped-in with their bookkeeping services, which provided a relief to the ownerships and leadership teams.
Nicole, a Lead Consultant with InSight, now serves as Konrady’s fractional controller. She works closely with Leah and their internal accounting coordinator to manage day-to-day financial operations, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and cash flow is closely monitored each week. From daily and weekly bookkeeping tasks to month-end close, Nicole and the InSight team act as an extension of Konrady’s internal accounting function.
“Konrady recognized they didn’t need a full internal team with 20+ years of accounting experience to handle daily operations,” Veronica shares. “Instead, they’ve built a smart, scalable solution by combining internal talent with the experience and support of our team.”
With the InSight team providing reliable financial data, Veronica plays a key role in analyzing that information and guiding strategic decisions. From evaluating the ROI of new hires to planning for long-term growth, she brings clarity to the numbers and helps leadership make confident, informed choices.
“She takes really complicated information and breaks it down in a way that everybody can understand,” Leah says. “That’s helped our leadership team grow in both financial literacy and confidence.”
Big Wins and Bigger Dreams
Leah and her team have plenty to celebrate. Konrady Plastics recently became ISO certified—a major milestone in quality assurance—and earned the title of “Best Place to Work” in Indiana.
“We’re building something we can all be proud of,” Leah reflects.
When asked what advice she’d give her younger self, her answer speaks volumes about her leadership style: “Enjoy what you do and the people you work with. Life’s too short to be unhappy.”
And if her company had a theme song? “We Are the Champions”—because building a legacy takes grit, heart, and a whole lot of perseverance.
Konrady Plastics is a testament to what’s possible when a business is rooted in values and powered by smart financial strategy. At InSight, we’re proud to support Leah, and the entire Konrady team as they continue to grow, adapt, and lead in their industry.
